Building our own Church

The Plett Evangelical Fellowship started in 1994. At the time it was just two couples meeting in a home on Sundays. The husband of the one family was the local headmaster and the husband of the other family a full timer farmer. There was absolutely no intention on the part of either to start a Church, but the Lord had a special plan for Plett. During 1995,without any advertising, a few more joined the meeting on a Sunday and by 2000 there were 6o+ meeting in the Home.

Through an amazing set of circumstances we were able to acquire the use of the St Christopher’s hall in the centre of town at a very reasonable rent.

After 17 yrs, with the numbers standing at around 250,there is a real need to have our own church with Sunday school and Youth facilities. We are overjoyed that the Fellowship is now a household name in Plett and attracting old and young, Afrikaans and English and especially young families.

Just over two years ago we became aware of a north facing property bordering the Plett Country Club. It is situated 250m off the Piesang valley road, offers a homestead for a future pastor or rental, ample parking space and we believed ,would raise little, if any, objections to us developing it into a church property. The lower level will serve as a early development school during the week and Sunday school on Sundays. The property also offers ample space for future generations to develop self catering units etc which would make the Plett Evangelical Fellowship truly self sustaining. The hall has been designed to serve as a multi-purpose facility so that it can be used for youth events, conferencing and related activities that fall within the bounds of Christian service. It is also equipped with shower facilities so that mission groups can be accommodated.

The accompanying plans represent many years of fine tuning the design. We would love any further input if you have some good ideas.

How will we pay for the building?

We really believe that if its in the Lords Will He will pay for the building!

After fervent prayer we received our first confirmation that the project must go ahead. The Christian Brethren Company kindly offered to pay the asking price of 2.6million for the property. The condition is that the title remains in their Name .We believe is a very sound arrangement.

As a Church community we have saved around 1.5 million, giving us some money to get going. Just over 1/3 of that amount was given by outside visitors to the Fellowship. A local friend of the fellowship offered to do all the ground work at no cost to the Fellowship[approx value R250 000. ] The total cost of the church is estimated at around R 5,5 m. The balance of cost we believe we will get from pledges within the Fellowship and gifts from many visitors ,local and abroad, who have made the Fellowship their home from home.We will simply builds as money allows.

We also have many handymen and women in the Fellowship who will get stuck in and make it happen.

The final stage of rezoning the property is imminent. If all goes according to plan, we hope to start building early in the new year. Please pray for this project that it may all be a wonderful testimony to the Lord’s goodness and provision to his children in Plett!
