A word fitly spoken is like APPLES OF GOLD in a setting of silver – Proverbs 25v11
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he Proverbs 29v18
What vision is the Psalmist referring to? In the context it is quite clear that he has in mind Spiritual Vision and if our vision is primarily focused on earthly matters: health, relationship difficulties, financial worries, obsession with self, etc., we will spiritually wither and die.
The reality is that if we have no spiritual vision circumstances can overwhelm us and we negatively affect those around us so they also perish spiritually and emotionally. We need to have Spiritual Vision and Spiritual Vitality if we want Spiritual Victory. What is this “vision”? The Psalmist says it is “keeping the Law”. What does it mean to keep the law? In Matthew 22v36 Jesus was asked that question “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’
What does it mean to love God? It isn’t a lukewarm, half-hearted or apathetic fondness for God. When Peter assured Jesus that he loved Him Jesus told him ‘to feed my sheep’. It is impossible to genuinely love the Lord without loving other people by ‘feeding them’ or growing them in their faith. They might irritate you, they might take advantage of you, they might let you down, they might hurt you, but if you love them and see them become disciples wholeheartedly following the Lord the reward for you is happiness!
